Life Is Swell

Everything's been going so well lately.  Liking work a lot.  Been hanging out with people in my office more.  They're  a good bunch of people.  And work is actually interesting and fulfilling.  Makes me think that law school really is the right path for me.

Been getting to know SF more and have been slowly making friends and finding my place here.  It's too bad I don't know how long I'll be here and when I'll have to start the process of adopting a new home again.

The Golden State

For some reason a lot of people still think I'm abroad.  I've been back in California for a few months now and have been living and working in San Francisco since the end of November.

Work's pretty busy, but the people are fun.

It's Friday and I'm pregaming at the office!!  Gonna meet up with some new friends as well as Scott and Reiko tonight.

Here's to a fun weekend!

Damn Credit Cards

I had one of the most humiliating experiences in a long time tonight.  went out to a trendy vegetarian place tonight and ordered some food to go.  I unfortunately didn't have any cash and used my credit card.   He runs the card and tells me that it was declined.  At first I think he was joking, but then he shows the the receipt for the failed transaction.  I decide to run across the street to the ATM in the rain (!), but to add insult to injury, the machine is out of order!!  After spending about 15 minutes going through the credit card's stupid customer service phone menus, I finally get a person who tells me there's nothing wrong with the card whatsoever.   I go back to the take out area, explain the situation, and try to make another purchase.  Of course the guy rolls his eyes and tries to shoo me away by offering me a free pasta salad.  I insist on making a real purchase and produce the card one again.  Luckily, this time the transaction works.  The guy refuses to aplologize and then starts lecturing me about how unreliable machines are and how we're too dependent on technology.

Moral of the story: always carrry CASH.

Great Barrier Reef

I'm now a certified open water scuba diver!  I did a short course at the Great Barrier Reef off the shores of Cairns, Australia.  We stayed on board a ship for 3 days and did a total of 9 dives over the three days.  It was like a mini-cruise.  All meals were provided, plus there was a bar, TV room, and even an outdoor spa.  In the water we saw some amazing things like a shark, coral, and clown fish (Nemo!).

can't wait to start diving around the world!!

South Island, NZ

I'm in Queenstown now.  It's a famous resort city known for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports.  It's in the southern part of the South Island near many different national parks.  Yesterday I was all suited up and ready to take a helicopter ride to hike on a glacier.  But unfortunately it started raining and the pilot decided that it was too dangerous to fly.  Guess I'll just have to climb a glacier next time!
